Emergency warning signs

If you see any of the following, stop training, secure the environment, and get qualified in-person help. Do not wait for a reply in a community thread.

  • Bite, snap, or contact that leaves a mark

Separate immediately with a secure barrier. Provide first aid and seek medical care for any human injury. Arrange an in-person evaluation before resuming any interaction.

  • Guarding food, chews, objects, spaces, or people

Stop all approaches and trades with the guarded item. Prevent access. Do not test the behavior. Get qualified in-person help.

  • Hard stare, freeze, or body block

This is a warning, not defiance. Create distance calmly, remove the trigger, and do not punish the signal.

  • Growling around a child

Full separation until a qualified professional has assessed the household in person. Never punish the growl.

  • Stalking or chasing a child or running person

Manage with barriers and leashes immediately. This escalates as the dog matures and gains strength.

  • Sudden behavior change, pain, or irritability

Book a veterinary examination. Pain and illness change behavior before anything else does.

  • Suspected bloat / GDV

Repeated unproductive retching, a distended or painful abdomen, drooling, restlessness, weakness, or collapse is an emergency. Go to a veterinarian now. Do not wait for a community reply.
